Email notifications

Configure which transactional emails ADO Pilot sends — review completion, credit alerts, plan changes, and the weekly digest.

Last updated

Choose which emails ADO Pilot sends to your organization by toggling four preferences on the Notifications settings page. The defaults are tuned so you hear about anything that affects review credits (RCs) or billing without being paged on routine activity.

Who can change these settings

Only users with the org-admin role can modify the email preferences. The dashboard disables the toggles and the save button for non-admins and shows a read-only notice, and the API rejects writes from member or viewer roles.

The four email toggles

The Email Notifications card lists four preferences. Each is an independent toggle.

Review completed

Fires when a pull request review reaches a terminal verdict — PASS, ADVISORY, or FAIL. One email per review, sent after the status check has been posted back to Azure DevOps.

Credit low

This toggle governs two live emails about review credit (RC) consumption:

  • Trial usage warning — sent to trial organizations when RC consumption reaches 80% of the plan's included credits. ADO Pilot resends this warning up to three times, roughly a day apart, for as long as usage stays at or above 80%. It's currently trial-only; converted paid plans don't yet get an 80% warning.
  • Credit exhausted — sent once your organization's RCs are fully consumed for the billing period (see Overage behavior).

Turning this toggle off suppresses both emails.

Plan changes

Covers plan-lifecycle emails — renewal reminders, trial-ending notices, trial-to-paid conversion confirmations, and service principal (SP) activation confirmations. Use this toggle to keep the billing owner informed without subscribing them to per-review noise.

Weekly digest

Off by default. When the feature ships, this toggle will enable a weekly summary of review activity — review counts, RCs consumed, and findings broken out by severity. The toggle is wired up today; delivery is not.

Saving your preferences

  1. Open Settings then Notifications in the dashboard.
  2. Toggle each preference to the value you want.
  3. Click Save preferences.
  4. Wait for the Saved confirmation to appear next to the button.

If the save fails, an inline error appears with the cause (typically a network blip or a session that expired mid-edit). Toggling again and re-saving recovers.

What you cannot disable

There is no master "all email off" switch. Critical account messages — password resets, security notifications, Marketplace billing receipts from Stripe, and service-health alerts (for example, a setup problem that's preventing reviews from running — see Reviews never started: service-hook permission error) are transactional and always send, even with every toggle off. A service-health alert goes to every admin on the organization and repeats roughly daily until the underlying problem is fixed.
